The railway divides Vikingstad into two parts. The old village centre lay about 500 metres south of the railway, while the station is now centrally placed in the settlement. [1]
The station opened on 15 September 1873 as Bankeberg. It was renamed Vikingstad in 1927 after confusion with Bankeryd. [1]
